The last weekend of May we invited a number of cycling club presidents, trainers and responsible persons from some European cycling clubs to Calella to show them our region and especially its landscape, the quality of our routes and rental bikes, our villages and our services.
14 cyclists from Germany, Switzerland, England and Denmark followed our invitation and arrived on Wednesday and Thursday. After their airport transfers and check in at Hotel Neptuno in Calella, on Thursday evening we all gathered for a meet and greet.
Toni Corral, Director of Blau Mari Incoming Services, the parent Company of Olebike, made a speech to introduce the Company and our goals as well as our expectations. Afterwards, Maria Luisa Makowski, Product Manager of Olebike, presented the intensive schedule of the next days and the services we could offer in particular to clubs and groups.
On Friday morning we went by mini vans to Lloret where the Specialized rental bicycles were delivered by our partner Medbikes and adjusted to everybody’s needs. We filled our sport bottles, took some bars and finally start with two guides on one of the most beautiful roads in our area along the Costa Brava coast via Tossa de Mar to Sant Feliu de Guixols. Blue sky and sun made the views and the ride even more beautiful.
Our fastest and ambitious riders just returned without a break to “enjoy” a 6 kilometres climb to the Hermitage of Sant Grau with a considerable challenging ascent. The second group of cyclists enjoyed a coffee break next to the sea in Sant Feliu before returning to Tossa de Mar. There, the two cycling groups also met partners and family of some contestants who visited the coastal village of Tossa with its Castle and its walled-in old town.
Under some pine-trees the Olebike team prepared a delicious lunch and served cold drinks. Even the youngest got a playground area to play around.
After relaxing for an hour, cyclists were hell-bent on continuing the route and most of them decided to continue from Lloret to Calella, 20km more on the bike, instead of taking the intended mini buses back. Therefore the most of our cyclists finished the day with 84 or 96km and 1400 to 1600 meters of climbing in their legs. The rest of the afternoon was free to relax and dine at the hotel.
On Saturday morning unfortunately it was cloudy and drizzling a bit but nevertheless the cyclists started in a good mood. Two groups, each with its own guide, this time started directly in front of the hotel to reach the Montseny and did a 84km route with 1300m climbing. A small ladies group, who prefered to go on their own speed, explored a flatter part of the hinterland through Breda, Hostalric and Tordera.
We met at Frankfurt McGregors to refill some energy with warm ham & cheese sandwiches and a selection of cakes which were prepared for us.
In the afternoon, after a relaxing shower, we visited Calella, its alleys and places, the promenade and even its lighthouse on a guided walking tour.
After dinner we emptied a secret number of bottles of Cava (Spanish Champagne), ate Sarah’s fabulous birthday cake, a present from Hotel Neptuno, chatted a lot and promised to meet again. Same group – same place! Thanks a lot to all of you! You were fantastic guests! 🙂
