A representative of Cycle Catalan will meet you at Girona Airport or Flaca station if arriving from Barcelona and transfer you to the Hotel Borrell or Hotel Can Blanc in Olot. A very important town at the beginning of the 20th century due to the iron ore industry there is some fantastic architecture reflecting the wealth of this era. A welcome glass of Cava awaits you in a local bar where we will introduce the itinerary. If you arrive in the afternoon we suggest you walk up to the volcano Monsacopa which can only be accessed by foot. This will provide you with panoramic views of the town. On your return stop off in El Parc Nou where the old botanical gardens were created in 1986 and visit the Natural Park Information Centre which is located in a beautiful Art Nouveau house. We have a couple of suggestions for dinner and can book this for you.
Day 2: The Volcanoes
Today takes you out of Olot along route 3 and 15 into the National Park. This is a circular walk which takes in one or two of the volcanoes in this area. After passing the volcano Croscat you will come across the famous beech forest of Fageda d’en Jorda. Your path then takes you to the volcano Sant Margarida where you can explore the unusually placed Romanesque church situated in the centre of the crater. We provide a packed lunch for today’s walk. Tonight we suggest you dine at la Quinta Justa which is located in a beautifully restored town house in the centre of Olot.

Day 3: The Vies Verdes (the greenway)
The Vies Verdes follows the route of the old railway which used to go from Olot to Girona. This was a very important rail link when Olot was at its industrial peak but sadly closed many years ago. A very good path has been created for both walking and cycling use. Your route takes you out of town to the south through the village of Presses where in the old station you can obtain the ‘vies verdes passport ‘and have it stamped to say you have visited. The countryside you are passing through is some of the most spectacular in the area. You have plenty of time to stop totake it in. A good lunch stop is the hamlet of Bas before descending to San Miquel del Pineda.’ La Rectoria’, a beautifully restored church house awaits where you will spend tonight enjoying the hospitality of Goretti and Roy and a three course dinner including wine. Roy was previously a chef at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh and Goretti was a whisky taster at Glenmorangie and can arrange for you to sample some different blends after dinner.

You return via Sant Feliu dePallarolls part of the saint James Way pilgrim route before returning to La Rectoria and Sant Miguel de Pineda. For those of you who want a challenge the peak of Puigllancada can be climbed. Dinner will be served in the hotel’s restaurant.
